Satterwhite Log Homes manufactures a variety of log profiles and corners details. These choices offer a range of style and visual appeal, both on the exterior and in the interior of your home.

Log pricing is per linear foot. Price differences between offices reflect transportation costs to stage materials from the point of manufacture. Satterwhite warehouses are located in Texas, Utah, and Georgia. Delivery to the construction site is quoted separately.

D-Shape House Logs

The D-Shaped house logs are our most popular design. They feature a rounded exterior face with a flat interior face. Interior finish is simplified with the interior flat surface. Electrical outlets are also easier to install.

Smokey Mountain House Logs

This house log has flat sawn surfaces inside and out with an exterior chinking recess. The inside surface with be milled smooth while the exterior surface has a rough finish. The chinking recess can be added to the interior face as well. Chinking recess can either be filled with chinking or chink paint.

Butt and Pass Corner

Satterwhite Log Homes.

This is the standard corner design used in our published pricing. Butt & Pass corner construction can be used with all of our house logs except the Swedish Cope. The butt and pass stacking is alternated with each course. Our polyurethane caulk is applied in these butt joints as well as between each course.

Dovetail Corner

Satterwhite Log Homes.

This type of corner is offered in all of our Smokey Mountain sizes and all of our “D-Shaped” house logs except the 6 × 6. Building with this type of corner requires a detailed cutting order so that butt joints are minimized and staggered in the log wall. A special designed jig is used to make these cuts assuring a consistent, tight fitting corner. Our polyurethane caulk is applied in the butt joints as well as between each course.

Saddle-Notch Corner

Satterwhite Log Homes.

Saddle Notch corners are standard on Swedish Cope house log designs. This type of corner is necessary with a full round house log to assure a perfectly fitting corner. Again, special tooling is required to make these accurate cuts.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are additional surfaces available?

    Yes. Hand worked surfaces are available. Satterwhite does not use mechanical methods for distressed rustic finishes. All work is authentically done by hand using a foot adz or draw knife. Inquire for pricing and delivery.

  • Do you offer lower cost logs for barns and garages?

    Yes. Inquire for pricing and availability on “seconds” for garages, barns, etc. Second quality logs are unsuitable for residential construction, and will not perform satisfactorily for living spaces where modern standards of energy efficiency and weather resistance are expected and required by building codes.

  • How does Log Package pricing differ from Material Package pricing?

    Log Package prices apply to log-only orders. Material Package discounts require that log costs are 50% or less of the total purchase from Satterwhite Log Homes

  • Will logs that I order look exactly as they appear on this webpage?

    No. The images you see are illustrations. They are not drawn to scale. Each log you receive will have individual features and characteristics, just as you find in nature!

  • When my logs arrive, will they be pre-cut?

    No. You will receive your logs in random lengths in 2’ increments (8’-16’). They will be sawed-to-length on the jobsite.

    While pre-cut kits may at first seem attractive, they limit your options to accommodate last minute changes, they can seem like a giant jigsaw puzzle during construction, and they also increase delays and costs when mistakes are inevitably made and replacement parts have to be ordered..

  • How much caulk will be required for my project?

    The amount of caulk required can vary based on conditions. Generally, one tube of caulk is needed for each 20 lineal feet. An additional 30 to 50 tubes is required for the bottom course.

  • How many cases of screws are required for my project?

    To estimate your needs, divide your total log footage by 600. The result will tell you approximately how many cases of screws you require.
